School fees collected even when the Wi-Fi isn't
The bursar collects feeding fees every morning on a connection that comes and goes. We built a billing app that keeps working offline, issues receipts that are always valid, and reconciles itself when the network returns.

The brief
Money first, cleverness second
Handling money correctly is the whole point of this product. Receipts had to be trustworthy whether the device was online or not, and every cedi had to be accounted for.
Receipts that are valid offline
Each device is given a block of receipt numbers in advance, so a receipt issued offline is still authoritative and numbering stays unbroken.
A ledger you can't quietly edit
Charges, payments and allocations are append-only. Mistakes are corrected with recorded adjustments, and an audit log is written by the database itself.
Two kinds of fee, one balance
Calendar-driven feeding fees and instalment-based school fees roll into a single, clear balance per pupil.
